Because Android Studio runs on top of JVM that doesnt have any natively supported port, then you run JVM on Rosetta emulator (Hardware -> Mac OS -> Rosetta -> JVM -> Android Studio).Of course, there are also a lot of things that don't work yet. The latest Canary build of Android Studio (15 as of writing this) brings initial native support for M1 Macs. Thankfully, Google is working on a solution. Because this is a recent transition, Apple has built-in a compatibility layer to allow x86-based programs to run on M1 Macs, and it seems to work pretty well.
